Text Dependent Voice Verification

What is text dependent voice verification?

Voice biometrics is the science of using a person’s voice as a uniquely identifying characteristic. One of the two ways we put voice biometrics into practice is called Text Dependent Voice Verification. The other is Text Independent Voice Verification.

Text Dependent biometrics depend on the text the person is speaking. This text is often referred to as a “voice passphrase.” The typical scenario for Text Dependent is a mobile or web login, a step-up authentication on mobile or web, or verifying identity through IVR authentication. Although Text Dependent is most commonly used with a passphrase that consists of three or four words that is about 1.5 seconds long, you can also use randomized numbers. User enrollment is active, meaning that the person must knowingly perform the enrollment and speak the required phrase.

The overall process of voice biometrics relies on the fact that each person’s voice is highly distinct due to how the human body produces sound. Therefore, by analyzing and processing samples of a person’s voice, it is possible to compare samples of voices to determine if the samples came from the same person. This is the basis for verifying identity through voice. This is simple to say, but analyzing a voice, extracting characteristics, and creating an accurate mathematical representation that is useful for comparing voices is a highly complex task. ID R&D’s voice biometric engine employs the latest signal processing and artificial intelligence technology to accomplish this goal.

About IDVoice

ID R&D’s core voice biometric capability, IDVoice, incorporates industry-leading research, deep expertise in speech biometrics and artificial intelligence to deliver a robust voice biometrics engine with unmatched functionality and accuracy.
